The Story:

A Christmas to Treasure is about a group of six friends reunited for a Christmas treasure hunt. The friends are: Austin (Tayler Frey) and Tipper (Katie Walder), childhood friends who work together as event planners for influencers; Michelle (Nikki McKenzie) and Clay (Norman Towns), childhood friends who married; Ricky (Roberto Aguire) who works for the small town where he grew up; Everette (Kyle Dean Massey), moved out of his hometown in high school, then returned years later to take care of Mrs. Marley, an old woman who befriended him and his friends when they were children.

When the group of friends were kids, Mrs. Marley put on a Christmas treasure hunt. After the kids grew up and moved away, the treasure hunt ended. After her passing, each member of the group gets an invitation to take part in a final Christmas treasure hunt.

When Tipper gets the invitation to go back home for the final treasure hunt, she convinces Austin to join her. Austin only agrees because he doubts Everette will be there. However, Austin isn’t aware that Everette had moved back to town to care for Mrs. Marley during her dying days.

Ricky refuses to play along with the treasure hunt because the town now owns the property. The town is going to sell it to the highest bidder. And since Ricky works for the town, he is in possession of the key to the house.

When Austin and Tipper arrive in town, they meet up with Ricky, Michelle, Clay, and Everette. Austin is upset to see Everette, who broke his heart when they were in high school. Everette tries to talk to him, but Austin refuses to listen.

Since Ricky has the key and refuses to let the gang on the property, Tipper goes to Ricky’s office, flirts with him, then take the key. And as the treasure hunt begins, romance between Ricky and Tippy begins to blossom, and Everette tries to melt Austin’s cold heart.

Some Thoughts:

The story for A Christmas to Treasure is a hot mess. While Ricky works for the town, we don’t actually know what he does. Everette’s employment history is also unknown. How can he drop everything to take care of Mrs. Marley in her final days?

The Marley house is huge, and the grounds extensive, so how did Everette set up all the decorations on his own? If the town took over the house for back taxes, why isn’t it being auctioned off? Why did the town hire a real estate agent to sell it? And if Mrs. Marley couldn’t pay the taxes on the house, how could she afford the upkeep? It is mentioned a few times that the house is in disrepair, but it looks pretty damn good to me.

The treasure hunt also makes no sense. If Mrs. Marley was so poor that she couldn’t afford to pay the property taxes, why would the gang think there’s a large sum of money to be found? I understand that you’re supposed to suspend belief when watching these things, but this a bit much.

The romance between Austn and Everette is fun to watch, and the movie is entertaining despite its many flaws.

The Final Verdict:

Despite low production values and a story that makes no sense, A Christmas to Treasure manages to be entertaining.
