Jump to the good stuff: The Story | Some Thoughts | The Final Verdict
The Story:
Still Waiting in the Wings is a musical comedy about an overly positive man trying to make it on Broadway.
Anthony (Jeffrey A. Johns) is an extremely cheerful man waiting tables at a dinner theater in Times Square with a bunch of other people trying to make it in show business. When newcomer Bradley (Joe Abraham) gets a job at the restaurant, Anthony tries befriending him. But instead of becoming friends, Bradley uses Anthony’s connection to undermine Anthony and give himself the upper hand.
Some Thoughts:
Take away the strippers and gay porn and Still Waiting in the Wings would make a good children’s movie. Kids would love the cloyingly positive main character, and the message of friendship and doing well for others is something we all need to hear more often.
The music is far from inspiring, and the vocal talent is not Broadway quality. But it’s better than a high school production. The acting, directing, and cinematography are what you would expect from a film like this. My expectations for Still Waiting in the Wings were low, and it delivered the mediocrity I had signed up for.
There are a lot of celebrities and some stars in Still Waiting in the Wings–Ed Asner, Sally Struthers, Lee Meriwether, Chita Rivera, Cindy Williams, to name a few–which is a bit surprising. I have no idea how or why these people would sign up for this movie, but it must have had some type of draw for them. Or maybe they wanted something to do or were friends with someone connected to the project.
This is also the continuing story from Waiting in the Wings, which I have not seen. As a stand-alone story, it did well. Having not seen the first film, I never felt as if I was missing any plot points.
The Final Verdict:
Still Waiting in the Wings is a slightly amusing film that is not really worth your time.
