The Story:

We Are Three is about some people who meet, have a ménage à trois, then end up in a three-way relationship.

Nacho (Carlos Etchévers) meets Ana (Flor Dragonetti) at a party, and they become interested in each other. When the bartender, Sebastian (Juan Manuel Martino), starts showing them both some attention, things begin to get interesting. Soon Sebastian entices them to go back to his place to fool around, and they agree.

As the three of them start hanging out, Sebastian asks if they would like to move in together and have a relationship. Leery of forming a non-traditional family, Nacho and Ana turn him down. But as they date each other, they can’t stop thinking about Sebastian’s proposition. And with that, the drama unfolds.

Some Thoughts:

We Are Three is a movie more concerned with introducing a non-conventional family than telling a story. Because of that, it doesn’t delve into specifics, which makes it feel a bit thin on substance. It has some decent production values, and the acting is passable.

Since there’s no depth to the story or situation, We Are Three is easy to watch. Also, since their meeting begins with a sexual adventure and ends in a proposition, there’s nothing romantic about it. Even Nacho and Ana’s relationship feels more transactional than romantic. When Ana and Nacho talk about each other, it’s never in a romantic way, nor do they ever seem to be dating. They meet, get together, then decide to take it to the next level.

There’s chemistry between all three actors, so it’s easy to see how they would be interested in each other. However, that doesn’t result in amorous intentions, which in turn removes some of the possibilities for tension and an obstacle to overcome. And in the end, the film is a bit humdrum.

The Final Verdict:

We Are Three is a movie about a non-traditional relationship. Although the film has some sexy moments, it’s a bit dull due to lack of character depth and romance.
