Jump to the good stuff: The Story | Some Thoughts | The Final Verdict
The Story:
Big Boys (season 3) continues the story about two men, one gay and the other straight, attending university in England.
Season three covers their final year at university and the antics during that time. The stories that come up are: Shannon (Harriet Webb) wins at Bingo and spends her prize money on a trip to Greece for everybody; Yemi (Olisa Odele) must decide between continuing at university or leaving to pursue a career in fashion design; Corinne (Izuka Hoyle) and Danny (Jon Pointing) have romance troubles; and Jack (Dylan Llewellyn) attempts to find his identity while exploring gay life.
This season wraps up all their stories, so I find it very unlikely that there will be a fourth season.
Some Thoughts:
The show does a great job pulling in the minor characters and bringing their stories to a fulfilling conclusion. Because the acting and writing are so good, there are lots of highs and lows. While I didn’t find season three to be as engrossing as the preceding two, it felt good to return to the characters and see how their stories play out.
As with seasons one and two, the minor characters have a prominent role and make the story feel well rounded. And like in previous episodes, there are times where the minor characters have a better storyline than Jack and Danny, who the series revolves around. Season three also gives us a sense of the real story that inspired Big Boys, which was a sweet touch.
Since Big Boys plays out more like a miniseries than a sitcom, you can’t watch season three unless you’ve seen the other two seasons. You can read my review of Big Boys (seasons 1 and 2) here.
The Final Verdict:
Big Boys (season 3) is the continuation of the light drama about two young men attending university and discovering themselves. It has a strong cast and a script that is thoughtful and well written.
