The Story:

Season 2 of Interview with the Vampire picks up after Claudia (Delainey Hayles) and Louis (Jacob Anderson) attempt to kill Lestat (Sam Reid). They flee to war torn Europe in search of other vampires, and end up in post World War II Paris, where they discover a vampire coven headed by Armand (Assad Zaman).

As Louis and Claudia are introduced to the coven, they notice a portrait of the coven’s founder, Lestat de Lioncourt. And with that, the drama unfolds.

Some Thoughts:

Although season two of Interview with the Vampire continues the story from season one, it loses the charm that Lestat brought to the story. Also, while Hayles is okay as Claudia, her non-southern accent is a bit of a distraction. On top of that, when she becomes a part of the Théâtre des Vampires, her age is problematic. Claudia is forced to wear a child’s dress as a reminder of her physical age. The problem is, her physical age is fourteen, and the dress is made for someone half that age. Because of this, and the clownish make-up, she looks foolish.

While season two does bring some drama, the lack of character development makes it feel like a regurgitation of season one minus the panache. Also, the ongoing interview between Daniel (Eric Bogosian), Louis, and Armand feels a bit long in the tooth.

Since we already know that Lestat was hauled off to the dump at the end of season one, the stakes are high that he’ll make an appearance. And that is what kept me watching.

The Final Verdict:

Although Interview with the Vampire season 2 often feels as if it’s spinning its wheels, fans of the story should enjoy it. And since it’s suggested that season three will be about Lestat, I’ll more than likely be there for it.
