Perks give your character extra abilities. This post will discuss how to find them, add them to your build, and maximize their usage.
As I’ve said in previous posts, each character comes with three Perks (Dead by Daylight, Choosing a Character for Beginners) along with some general perks. Each Perk has three tiers, each making the perk more powerful.
You Can Only Choose Four Perks
Perks can be added in the main character screen before you start the game and can be found in the Loadout tab (the middle tab on the left). This screen allows you to add Items, Add-Ons, Offerings, and Perks to your character. Although each character gets four Perk slots, they only start with one. The other slots will become available as you advance to levels 5, 10, and 15 in the Bloodweb (Dead by Daylight, the Bloodweb for Beginners).

Since you only get four Perks to bring into the game, you need to think about what you’re trying to accomplish. To find out what each Perk does, hover over it and a pop-up screen will explain its benefits and how to use it.
Increasing Your Available Perk
Once a character reaches level 50 in the Bloodweb, their Perks can be shared. This means any character you play will have more than their personal Perks available to them. So, if you play other characters, you’ll acquire a lot of Perks. Because of this, finding a Perk in your inventory can be a challenge.
At the top of Inventory/Perks is a search bar you can use to find a specific Perk. The search function isn’t as robust as it should be, so you’ll need to know the name of the Perk you’re looking for.

Perk Pairings
Some Perks can enhance each other when played together. For instance, if you want to stay healed throughout the game you might want to pair Botany Knowledge with Self-Care.
- Botany Knowledge: increases your healing speed.
- Self-Care: allows you to quickly self-heal without a med-kit.
If you’re looking to repair generators, you can use Stake Out with Hyperfocus. Stake Out will turn every good skill check into a great skill check, and Hyperfocus will give you a token for every great skill check, which can be used to speed up generator repair speeds.
- Hyperfocus: will give you 1 token for every great skill check. Every token will increase your generator repair speed.
- Stake Out: will give you 1 token for every 15 seconds you’re in the killer’s terror radius. Every good skill check will become a great skill check and increase your repair speed by 1%.
When you’re adding Perks to the slots, think about what you’re trying to accomplish. Do you want to stay healed, run from the killer, stay healed, etc… It’s good to keep one Perk slot open for one that will help you outside of your goal. I like to use Sprint Burst, which will allow you to run fast for three seconds.
Perks that Effect Other Players
There are some Perks that will affect not only you, but also your fellow players. Boon Perks and Prove Thyself are two examples of them, but there are others. Keep in mind that both killers and survivors have these types of perks, so some may affect you negatively.
Any Perk effect you may be feeling during play will be displayed as smaller icons to the left of your Perk Loadouts. Positive effects have the upper corner outlined and negative effects have the lower corner outlined. Killer effects are in red, survivor in green.

The Perks effecting survivors in the image above are listed below (left to right from the top)
- Overwhelming Presence (Killer Perk): increases the depletion rate of any survivor items being used (i.e. toolboxes won’t last as long).
- Open Handed (Survivor Perk): increases the radius for aura reading for all survivors.
- Kindred (Survivor Perk): allows all survivors in a specified range to see the killer’s aura when another survivor is on a hook.
- Up the Ante (Survivor Perk): increases the odds of every survivor to self-unhook.
You Can Save Three Builds

At the top center of the Loadout screen are three numbered slots where you can save three different builds. This allows you to save your current build in slot 1 while keeping a new build you want to try out in slot 2. These slots are also character specific, so if you switch characters, you’ll need to set these up again. Although this post is only talking about Perks, these slots also include Items, Add-ons, the Offering, and Perks.
