Dead by Daylight: Revealing the Killer’s Aura for Beginners

Dead by Daylight Aura Reading Perks Adam Francis

One of the best things any survivor can do is know the killer’s locations as often as possible. For seasoned players–and even a few slightly seasoned–the answer is easy: perks. So, in this post I’m going to talk about perks that will keep you informed as to killer’s whereabouts so you can make smart decisions.

Information perks will show the killer’s aura, so you’ll know if they’re standing behind a wall or are on the far side of the map. If the survivor you play doesn’t have the perk, you may to play the survivor who has the perk or look in the Shrine of Secrets. If you need a better understanding of perks and characters, read my post, Dead by Daylight: Choosing a Character for Beginners.

Here are six perks that will allow you see the killer’s aura.

  • Eyes of Belmont (Trevor Belmont): When a generator is completed, you see the killer’s aura for 1/2/3 seconds depending on the perk tier.
  • Dark Sense (General Perk–Available to All Survivors): When a generator completes, the killer’s aura will be seen when they are within 24 meters of you. The duration is 5/7/10 seconds depending on the perk tier.
  • Inner Focus (Haddie Kauer): Whenever a survivor loses a health state, you see the killer’s aura. The duration is 6/8/10 seconds depending on the perk tier. It also allows you see the scratch marks of other survivors.
  • Fogwise (Vittorio Toscano): While repairing a generator, the killer’s aura is revealed when you hit a great skill check. The duration is 4/5/6 seconds depending on the perk tier.
  • Alert (Feng Min): Whenever the killer breaks or damages something, you can see their aura for 3/4/5 seconds. The duration depends upon the perk tier.
  • Troubleshooter (Gabrial Soma): When in chase and you drop a pallet, you can see the killer’s aura for 4/5/6 seconds depending on the perk tier. It also gives you the aura of the generator with the most progress.

Fogwise, Stake Out, and Hyperfocus

My favorite aura reading perk is Fogwise, which you can pair up with Stake Out (Detective Tapp) and Hyperfocus (Rebecca Chambers). Both Hyperfocus and Fogwise activate when you get a Great Skill Check, which will be easy with Stake Out, which turns Good Skill Checks into Great Skill Checks. Hyperfocus will increase your generator repair speed while Fogwise will allow you to know where the killer is. This will allow you to get the generator done fast while knowing if you need to jump off and hide. Also, since Fogwise and Hyperfocus do different things, they will not be affected by Diminishing Returns (Dead by Daylight: Toolbox Charges and Diminishing Returns for Beginners).

You can see them in action in the video below.

Adding Inner Focus to Any Build Can Be Helpful

And here is a video of Inner Focus being added to the build. While the aura reading is great, seeing your teammates scratch marks is helpful if you’re looking for a heal or can hear a teammate nearby grunting in pain. Below is a video showing Sable’s scratch marks as we repair a generator. Keep in mind that I changed the color of scratch marks to yellow. Yours may be in red or anther color.

Troubleshooter is Better Than It Seems

While Troubleshooter allows you to avoid the killers mind games while in chase, it’s the secondary effect of seeing the generator with the most progress that I like. You can pair this with Any Means Necessary (Yui Kimura), which will allow you to lift dropped pallets. Doing this will ensure you have plenty of pallet options while in chase.

Eyes of Belmont and Alert

When something happens, the killer’s aura is revealed. For Eyes of Belmont, it’s repairing a generator; for Alert, it’s when the killer kicks a generator, destroys a pallet, or breaks a wall.
