As you play Dead by Daylight, you’ll sometimes find that you’re the last survivor and the best way out is through the hatch. The only problem is that you need to find it before the killer closes it.
Although the hatch spawns at the start of the trial, it’s only visible when there is only one survivor left. When the hatch is open and you’re near it, you can hear the air rushing out. So, if you’re madly running around looking for it, turn up the volume slightly. If you hear it, look around.
While listening for the Hatch is great, first you need to know where to look. You may need some tools to help in your search, or an idea of where the Hatch usually spawns. Here are some tips.
Use a Map
You can use a Rainbow Map to find the hatch location, or you can use a Regular Map with the Black Silk Cord add-on. However, you might find a med kit of toolbox more helpful than a map. If that’s the case, you can try using a perk.
Use a Perk
If you’ve ever played William “Bill” Overbeck, then you’re probably familiar with the perk Left Behind. This perk will show you the aura of the Hatch when you’re within a specified distance (depending on the perk tier). I’ve used it a few times and it works very well, but that’s all it does. Do you really want to use a perk slot for something you’re rarely going to use?
Scour the Map
What if you don’t want to use one of your four perk slots for something so specific that doesn’t happen too often? You could scour the map in an organized manner. You can start at the inside and work your out or outside, in. It depends on your comfort level and the type of map you’re on. Remember, although the hatch spawns in a random location, some maps do have common locations for the hatch. This doesn’t mean the hatch will be there, it’s just more likely that it will.
Common Hatch spawning locations:
- If there’s a road in the middle of the map, look there first.
- If the map is an open field, look in and around the killer shack.
- Check inside and around the main building (if that map has one). If it’s not there, check the outer edges of the map and around small cabins.
Below is a short video of me playing Orela Rose in which I escaped through the hatch without a map or perks. it was the first time I had this and it felt good.
