In my previous post on improving your Dead by Daylight skills (Dead by Daylight: Becoming a Better Player for Beginners I) I discussed using the Tomes to challenge yourself. This time I’m going to focus on becoming a better team player, because Dead by Daylight is ultimately a team sport. The goal is not just to get out alive, but to help as many people as possible do the same. So, with that in mind, below are some tips for improving your game.
Keep the Killer Away from Your Teammates
It’s always a good idea to stay clear of the killer, especially if you’re not skilled at being chased. However, there are times when you need to draw the killer away from a player who is on the hook so somebody else can save them. that’s when you run as far away from the hook as possible.
If the killer finds you and you’re being chases, try to stay away from people doing generators. This is when you want to waste the killer’s time and give your teammates a chance to accomplish some goals. It also gives you a chance to practice looking back to see where the killer is and running around objects (it’s called looping), and vaulting.
Take the Hit
This is something you do if you’re already healthy. If an injured player is about to get hit by the killer, get in the way and take the hit (see my post, Dead by Daylight: Character Icons for Beginners, if you don’t know how to tell who is injured). This isn’t a natural reaction, so you may have to force yourself to do it the first few times. However, this will keep you from having to rescue someone and give that player time to run and get healed. Remember, you need everybody to be healthy.
Also, if you’re down, heal yourself until it stops. It will be quicker for another player to get you healed enough to run away.
Heal your Teammates
When someone runs up to you and crouches, it means they want to be healed. If you’re in a safe area, do it. It’s also a good idea to heal someone after you take them off the hook and the killer isn’t around. Keep in mind that some people would rather finish repairing a generator before being healed, so don’t take offense if they ignore you. Help with then gen, then heal them once it pops.
Think About Your Build
Your build consists of everything you bring into the trial, Perks, Items and the Offering. How will they benefit you and your team? Do you understand how to use your Perks, and do they work well together? If you’re using Perks to help speed up generator repairs, are you also bringing a toolbox? Perks and Items are there to help you accomplish specific goals, even if that goal is just to stay alive, so make sure they’ll do just that.
Read, Dead by Daylight: Perks for Beginners, to get more tips on Perks and how to use them.
Try to use an Offering that will help everybody get Bloodpoints. If you don’t have any of those types of offerings, then look for one that will help your team.

Play with Friends
Play with friends or a gaming group on Discord that uses a voice channel. This will help you communicate with your teammates.
