Dead by Daylight: The Good Guy (Chucky) for Beginners

Dead by Daylight, Chucky

When looking for an easy killer to pick up, you may want to try Chucky. He’s easy to get around the map, can easily hide in tall grass and bushes, and becomes undetectable while in Hidey-Ho mode. If you enjoy sneaking up on people, he’s a lot of fun.

Because he’s inconspicuous and can make himself undetectable, Chucky’s considered a stealth killer. Other stealth killers are: Ghostface, Wraith, Pig, and Spirit. And while new players may find him easy to use, his special abilities take time to perfect. More on this below.

What Makes Chucky Fun to Play

Chucky has a great sense of humor. His voice lines are outrageous and will make you laugh more than once. He embodies everything about Chucky from the Childs Play movie, which makes him perfect for fans of the franchise. Add that to being able to catch survivors unaware, and you’re in for an entertaining game. However, before you can play him, you need to understand how he works.

Chucky has three special abilities:

  • Hidey-Ho: makes you undetectable and creates illusory footfalls to confuse survivors. It lasts 14 seconds.
  • Slice and Dice: increases movement speed to 8 meters per second and lunge duration by .06 seconds. You must be in Hidey-Ho mode to activate Slice and Dice.
  • Scamper: is part of Slice and Dice. It allows you to slide under pallets and quickly jump through and over windows and specified objects.

How you activate Chucky’s special abilities depends on what you use to play, a controller or keyboard and mouse. The HUD (Heads Up Display) will tell you what button to use in the bottom of the screen.

The Truth About Chucky’s Special Abilities

Since Chucky’s movement speed is 4.4 meters/second (110% of survivors), he’s one of the slower killers. You can increase movement speed by 5% with his unique perk, Batteries Included. More on that below.

Activating Slice and Dice will speed up your movement to 8 meters/second. While this sounds great, it can take a while to learn how to control him in Slice and Dice. Most new Chucky players find it frustrating, so they don’t utilize it. Don’t be that player. The only way to understand the power of Slice and Dice is to use it, even if that means sacrificing a trial or two for experience.

Below is a video of Slice and Dice being used to Scamper under a pallet and down the Ada.

In the video below I slice and dice the Leon. I’m improving…slightly.

Perks and Add-Ons

Chucky comes with three Unique Perks, which can be shared with your other killers once you prestige him to 50. You can find out more about perks in Dead by Daylight: Perks for Beginners.

Chucky’s Unique Perks are:

  • Batteries Included: When you’re within 16 meters of a completed generator, you gain 5% haste for 1/3/5 seconds (depending on the perk tier).
  • Friends ’til the End: Whenever you hook a survivor, a random survivor will scream and become the obsession.
  • Hex: Two Can Play: As long as there is a Hex Totem lit for Two Can Play and one unlit Hex Totem on the map, when you are stunned or blinded, all survivors who have done this to you will be stunned or blinded for 1.5 seconds.

While I can see a benefit to Batteries Included and Friends ’til the End, Hex: Two Can Play seems a bit useless, in my humble opinion. If you’re concerned with flashlight saves, bring Lightborn (The Hillbilly), which will keep you from being blinded. Friends ’til the End will work well with Play with Your Food (a general perk), which gives you a stackable 3%/4%/5% haste for 9/12/15 seconds when you stop chasing the obsession. This will allow you to use Play with Your Food after you hook the obsession.

Many of Chucky’s Add-Ons increase the duration of Slice and Dice and Scamper, so I suggest holding on to them until you get a grasp on these abilities. If you wait, you’ll have a nice stockpile when you’re ready to use them effectively.

While you’re practicing Slice and Dice, use Add-Ons like:

  • Plastic Bag: survivors walking through illusory footfalls gain exhausted for 15 seconds.
  • Pile of Nails: gives you undetectable for 3 seconds when you manually exit Hidey-Ho mode.
  • Mirror Shards: allows you to see illusory footfalls around survivors.
  • Rat Poison: while performing Slice and Dice, you’ll see the auras of survivors within 6 meters for 2.5 seconds. This could be helpful when practicing Slice and Dice.
  • Hair Spray & Candle: reduces the power gauge penalty by 20% for missed basic attacks while in Hidey-Ho mode.
  • Electric Carving Knife: decreases cool down of missed Slice and Dice attacks. This is good for practicing Slice and Dice.
  • Tiny Scalpel: pools of blood will be bright red when in Hidey-Ho mode.
  • Strobing Light: reduces your terror radius by 8 meters when Hidey-Ho is on cool down.
  • Doll Eyes: you’ll see auras of windows and pallets within 20 meters.
